Here's one of our favorite excerpts from the book:
Philly Lilly
You've probably heard of Petite Bateau, Barbour, and Jack Rogers, but I'm going to take you deeper. I'm going to take you into the lesser-known and therefore much more desirable world of Vested Gentress - a Valley Forge clothing company created in 1961. It used silk screening to create a line of brightly colored whimsical clothing. The company closed in the 80's. VG is now considered a vintage collectable.
This stuff is as hard-core as it gets; it's Lilly Pulitzer on speed. Ironic, somtimes even allogorical, these cartoonish prints can only be worn by people who not only have guts, but the balls to go with them. The kind of person who can wear VG with confidence is the kind of person who can walk through Alphabet City in lederhosen. They are that tough.
It has been rumored that part of Navy Seal training requires officers to sport the VG horses-in-gingham maxi dress for a 48-hour period, and this is why:
Horse's ass; no bad ass.
